Accessibility Statement
This accessibility statement applies to the website https://www.stuwo.at.
The Gemeinnützige Studentenwohnbau AG (STUWO) endeavours to make this website accessible in accordance with the Web Accessibility Act (WZG) and the international Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 – Level AA).
Compliance Status
This website is partially compliant with Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) and the European Standard EN 301 549, due to the limitations listed below.
The website is continuously being developed both technically and in terms of content. Accessibility is an important topic that we actively pursue. We are working continuously to remove existing barriers and improve accessibility.
Non-Accessible Content
The following areas are currently not fully accessible. For each area, we explain the nature of the limitation, its potential impact, and the alternatives available.
- Image Descriptions (WCAG 1.1.1):
Not all images have meaningful alternative text. This means that people using screen readers may not be informed of the image content.
Alternative: If you have questions about image content, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are happy to describe what is shown in the images.
- Page Structure and Layout (WCAG 1.3.1, 4.1.2):
The structure of pages (headings, sections) is not consistently implemented throughout. This may make navigation with assistive technologies more difficult.
Alternative: The main navigation in the header area of the website is accessible and provides access to all key areas.
- Colour Contrast (WCAG 1.4.3, 1.4.8):
Some text does not have sufficient colour contrast against the background. This may make reading more difficult for people with visual impairments.
Alternative: Most browsers offer the option to use custom colour settings or to increase contrast (e.g. via accessibility settings).
- Keyboard Operation (WCAG 2.1.2, 2.4.1):
Not all functions of the website are fully operable using only the keyboard (without a mouse).
Alternative: The essential functions such as navigation, the contact form, and the student hall search are keyboard-operable. Should you experience any difficulties, we are happy to assist you by telephone or email.
- Automatically Moving Content (WCAG 2.2.2):
Automatically changing content cannot be paused in all cases.
Alternative: The content of the sliders is also accessible via the standard navigation.
- Language Attributes (WCAG 3.1.1, 3.1.2):
The language of individual page sections is not always correctly specified. As a result, screen readers may pronounce text incorrectly, which can impair comprehension.
Alternative: If you experience any difficulty understanding content, please do not hesitate to contact us – we are happy to help.
- Forms and Error Messages (WCAG 3.2.2, 3.3.3, 3.3.4):
Instructions and error messages in forms are not always described in a sufficiently clear manner. This may make completing forms more difficult.
Alternative: Should you experience difficulties completing a form, you are welcome to submit your enquiry by email or telephone instead.
Justification for Phased Implementation
The full implementation of certain accessibility requirements would constitute a disproportionate burden within the meaning of Section 2(3) of the Web Accessibility Act (WZG). This applies in particular to measures that would require extensive technical changes or a complete redesign of the website. These improvements will be implemented gradually as part of the planned further development.
Preparation of This Statement
This statement was prepared on the basis of a self-assessment of the website.
Date of this statement: February 2026
