Vienna has a myriad of Grätzeln. Grätzeln in the inner city are especially popular with students. So, of course STUWO is right there as well. We are represented with our popular dormitories Kenyongasse, Strozzigasse & Strudlhofgasse in the 7th, 8th and 9th district. Today we want to present to you the Grätzeln around our dormitories. So, you can find out which Grätzel you like best and which STUWO dormitory meets your needs.

„A Grätzel is a Viennese expression for a special, often especially trendy part of a district that is defined by specific stores, green areas, bars or pubs and restaurants. Oftentimes a Grätzel covers a few streets and building complexes; however, its borders are not clearly defined and may change over time.”

 

STUWO dormitory 1070

Address: Kenyongasse 23-25, 1070 Vienna

In our STUWO dormitory Kenyongasse community is key! You can make new friends in the communication zone with its own bar or in the table tennis room while playing a round of table tennis. Furthermore, you can enjoy the wonderful view over Vienna while studying in the Learning Lounge. To give your logical cerebral hemisphere a break, you can let your creative side run free in the music rehearsal room. To balance out the stressful university life, you can push yourself in the fitness area or relax in the wellness area with our sauna. No more warm drinks, thanks to the fridge in your room!

Did you know that the STUWO Kenyongasse is also called House Erasmus? Perfect for an Erasmus semester in Vienna or to make international friends!

Grätzel Highlights in 1070: District Neubau

  • Shopping street Mariahilfer Straße – for extensive shopping tours or last minute errands right around the corner
  • Main library of the City of Vienna at Urban-Loritz-Platz – a calm space to read and study
  • Study café „das café“ – a popular student’s spot in the 7th district for delicious coffee for concentrated studying
  • MQ and Spittelberg: The museum quarters with various museums and restaurants as well as the historic part of the city „Spittelberg“ are only 10 min away.
  • There are more stores as well as trains and buses at Westbahnhof, just 5 min away.

STUWO dormitory 1080

Address: Strozzigasse 6-8, 1080 Vienna

Our first dormitory, the STUWO Strozzigasse, in the 8th district is very dear to us and it has been delighting residents ever since the beginning with comfortable rooms and practical furnishing. The fitness area and the sauna are there for your workouts and relaxation. If you get thirsty, the vending machine with cool drinks on the first floor is always available. You can express your musical talents in the music rehearsal room. If you need to print something for university, then you can use the Printbox in the entrance hall to print quickly and simply for a small fee! The courtyard is perfect for taking a break outside and meeting other residents after hours of studying!

Grätzel Highlights in 1080: District Josefstadt

  • Café + Bar „Erich“ and „Ulrich“ – perfect for breakfast before your lecture, a coffee break in the afternoon or a relaxed drink after university
  • Volksgarten – a beautiful park for long walks during the day and parties at night
  • Student pub „Polkadot“ – alternative music, cold drinks and fantastic atmosphere for a perfect evening with friends
  • The Neubaugasse is the extension of Strozzigasse and hipster area. Vintage stores, trendy restaurants and countless shops for everyone
  • The inner city is only a few minutes away.

STUWO dormitory 1090

Address: Strudlhofgasse 5, 1090 Vienna

Our STUWO dormitory Strudlhofgasse with 96 home spots is small but fine. You can create your own home in the fully furnished apartments. You can experience the community feeling in the party room or common kitchens. Thanks to the laundrette with washing machines and dryers, the laundry is uncomplicated and quickly done.

You’ll find quiet in the Learning Lounge to do your homework or prepare for an exam. You can spend a well-deserved break in the courtyard. If music makes your heart beat faster, then the music rehearsal room is going to be your new favourite spot. After you have exerted yourself in the fitness area, you can get some well-deserved relaxation in the sauna and steam bath.

Grätzel Highlights in 1090: District Alsergrund

  • The student restaurant “Sägewerk” or the Irish pub Charlie P’s are perfect for a culinary pit stop on the way home or funny, relaxed evenings with friends
  • Liechtensteinpark and Votivpark – for relaxation in nature, picnics with your favourite residents or peaceful walks
  • Study café „blueorange – coffee and bagel“ – if you need a change of scenery and caffeine shot during exam preparation
  • The historical inner city is only 5 min away from the dormitory.
