Living in Vienna: Hip “Grätzel” and STUWO dormitories in the 22nd district of Vienna

The 22nd district in Vienna has the beautiful name “Donaustadt”, which means “Danube City”, and presents the perfect mixture of city and country. Thanks to the fantastic transportation connections to the inner city and great infrastructure including shops and restaurants, you can enjoy the advantages of living in a city. The Danube, the New Danube, the Old Danube, many parks and recreational areas connect you to nature and to the bordering state Lower Austria. In the middle of this paradise, our two dormitories Dückegasse and Seestadt Aspern are located! Today we present to you these STUWO dormitories and the surrounding Grätzel!

A “Grätzel” is the Viennese expression for a special, often hip part of a district that’s defined by particular shops, green areas, bars and restaurants. There are no clearly defined borders and Grätzel are ever-changing.

STUWO Dückegasse

Address: Dückegasse 3, 1220 Vienna

The dormitory Dückegasse offers you more than just a place for housing. The STUWO Dückegasse is a place to live. In addition to your own four walls in apartments, optionally with a balcony, you can also use the common rooms, such as the party room, music rehearsal room or rooftop terrace. You can enjoy Italian dishes in the in-house pizzeria. Your pet is equally welcome at this STUWO! Especially the amazing public transport connections and the nearby University of Veterinary Medicine are practical.

Bianca: “For me, this accommodation was the best option because I could move in with my dog. It’s a very enjoyable atmosphere in this dormitory and I also like the area.”

Grätzel highlights: Neukagran 1220

  • The centre of this Grätzel is definitely the nearby Kirschblütenpark. There you can enjoy grasslands and the shadows of trees, work out or meet friends. Furthermore, there are regular events such as morning yoga in the Kirschblütenpark. Meeting point: next to the play area; Times: from July, on Mondays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30.
  • The Donauzentrum is the perfect place for extensive shopping dates, culinary adventures, cinema nights or a game of pool.
  • One of the biggest highlights is the nearby recreational area “Alte Donau”. In only 15 minutes, you can enjoy the cool water, relax on the beach with your friends or visit one of the many restaurants. In winter, you can go ice skating there.
  • The hip coffee house Koun Coffee is a great spot for a coffee with friends or an extensive study date. Especially impressive are the many fancy coffee creations.

STUWO Seestadt Aspern

Our modern dormitory STUWO Seestadt Aspern in the urban area “Seestadt Aspern” offers you everything you need as a student. You can study for hours in the Learning Lounge, relax on the rooftop terrace or in the courtyard and play your instrument in the music rehearsal room. There will be hot matches of football among the residents in the common room.

Grätzel highlights: Aspern 1220

  • An active afternoon is waiting for you in the Boulderbar Seestadt. Whether you are a beginner or expert, you will find a parkour in the indoor climbing hall. It’s even more fun with some friends!
  • Of course, the centre of the Grätzel is the Asperner lake and the Seepark, which is only 5 minutes away from the STUWO dormitory, where you can cool off in summer. But you can relax there all year round.
  • For a relaxed culinary pit stop on beautiful days, you should check out tschau tschau. Drinks and snacks in a smooth atmosphere at the lake – feels like vacation!
  • When you don’t want to cook for yourself, the team of Habibi und Hawara will take care of that. The oriental restaurant has something for everybody. Furthermore, it’s a great spot for relaxed evenings with your friends and STUWO residents!
